If controversial plans by the RFL go ahead to charge every person I. The amateur game a £20-40 annual registration fee will be disastrous for the long term future of our game . This great game of ours isn’t played on a weekend by the affluent , it’s played by kids from mainly working class backgrounds, people who find it difficult to make ends meet at times . They need to have a look at themselves in the mirror and ask themselves who do they think turn out on a weekend for free to give kids a chance to participate in our great game , when all around football is the predominant sport. Give the kids and the game a break and let them enjoy the experience without extra costs on top of club subs , boot and the like

Maybe, depends what you get in return.

If it’s a cheap attempt to get more cash it is a disgrace.

If it’s to be plotted back into the grass roots game I see no problem, in fact it’s very reasonable.

Problem is even if it’s the latter I don’t trust them to use it wisely.

Some kids struggle to pay their subs on a weekly basis now , this will simply turn parents/ kids away and maybe the next Tom Johnstone or Jordan Crowther

I'm not disagreeing what I'm saying is that it depends on how it's used.

For example, if that money was used to pay for transport ie minibus hire, or for boots, insurance, anything that players' parents have to provide and bought cheaply through the sports buying power or whatever this would take expenses away from parents. If used wisely and explained correctly that initial payment could make kids playing the game a cheaper experience over the season as a whole.

We can't just dismiss ideas because the headline figure looks high. Also, I'm sure the game would not be dumb enough (I pray) to not have a contingency to support kids whose parents genuinely can't pay.

My problem with it is that I don't believe it, on past experience, it will be used wisely at all. RL is full of grandiose schemes and petty infighting and I fear the money would just be frittered away on nonsense or worse on the salaries of those who will inevitably be employed to administer it.

If every player got back say £15 for every £20 in benefits I'd say that was good, sadly the way society is today I fear it would be more like £20 in and £5 out :(

It's like these regional academise, brilliant in theory but you just know they will be abused.

Have two boys who have done both rugby and football. Anyone not contributing has done well in my eyes as always had to cough up but found rugby to be better funded. Might be due to having lads that have played at Stanley and Eastmoor so are both well run clubs. £20-40 isn’t much for a full season for me but can see it might be a challenge to others.

Having my two grandchildren at football and rugby clubs I’ll have to disagree with you on that , the football club is falling over itself with money , in fact the brass their paying the lad to sit on a mower is eye watering, and something I’m seriously considering when retired . But the rugby club although in its infancy wouldn’t carry on without the parents/ grandparents substantial contributions . Football as a whole is awash with money and no surprise really amateur rugby league is on its uppers from where I’m standing, and needs some serious money pumping in from the top if the next generation of England stars are to be found .
