Wingers : Mon May 24, 2021 8:20 am
Assuming TJ makes a full recovery he will get his place back.

So one of the K’s will be dropped even though both have done well.

Yesterday made it obvious to me who is the better if the two.

Kershaw did well but made a few errors and didn’t score.

Kay was faultless, two tries, no errors and big yards, as good a wing performance as I’ve seen in a while.

What really matter for me is Kaye is a natural true scorer and Kershaw isn’t and that bags it for me. Can he do the right side?

Think that’s a bit harsh on kershaw. Kaye took his tries well and is a better finisher, but he never had to catch a high bomb which is one of his weaknesses. Let’s hope tj does get fit and we can worry about it then

Re: Wingers : Mon May 24, 2021 9:20 am
Was impressed by both wingers yesterday. Kershaw I wasn’t sure was good enough but his last 2 games he’s been solid on the wing and doing the basics well including making good yardage carries. He seems to be making less mistakes as he gets more matches under his belt. Fair play to the lad showing he can cut it at SL level. He’s still got to prove he can do it consistently and the next two games we will see if he can.

Kay seems much better on the left wing which is a conundrum when TJ gets back. I suppose there’ll be a few weeks before that and if we keep winning and Kay and Kershaw keep performing they may both get a prolonged run.

Not a bad position to be in at all.

I thought Kershaw did a better job of bringing the ball out of our 20, something the whole team has been poor at this year. It gave us a bit more freedom to play further down the pitch, and Kay finished two of those moves well. Best game of the season from both in my opinion.

To be fair kaye proving he is a try scorer somthing kershaw isnt.he has chance to go for corner yesterday in first half but cut back inside to the defence instead.problem with both of them is your expecting a mistake at any time think there was just the one yesterday when kershaw knocked on in first min 20 from our line

How on earth was it harsh.

One will probably lose his place so something has to give.

Kaye did take a bomb, Kershaw a few more but you can hardly judge a player on what he didn't have the chance to do!

FYI both have proved vulnerable to the bomb in the past, both about the same so why highlight Kaye as somehow worse is a bit odd.

At the end of the day, Kaye is a natural try-scorer, Kershaw not quite so much IMO.

Kershaw has time on his side so it's hardly the end but for me, Kaye has more finesse. It's a decision that will have to be made sooner rather than later I hope.

Can't say I agree, I'd have said Kaye edged it. I like Kershaw but he's a bit of a David Jones, he gives 100% and bounces about all over the place. That gives the impression he's getting more yards than he is.

Unfortunately, I don't have the stats but I reckon there won't be much in it, The big stat is how they finished and Kaye took two and Kershaws bombed one he really should have taken. He will learn but for now, it's got to be Kaye unless he regresses.

Almost straight after that very early error by Kershaw he made a 40 metre bust/break that had the crowd giving him a deserved round of applause. I think the same set gave us the position for our 1st try.

Re: Wingers : Mon May 24, 2021 3:09 pm
I remember speaking to Tony Drury at the time we originally signed Kay. Seem to remember that Tony was coaching our under 23 side at the time having had great success looking after our title winning under 18`s. He was influential in getting Kay to Wakefield. Kay was a hugely talented half back in junior club Rugby and was on all the big clubs radar's, he was snapped up by Bradford when he was 16 on a contract that reflected his natural talent and the fact that all the ``big`` clubs were after his signature. He excelled at half back and full back I think in the Bradford under 18`s but for some reason that I cant remember fell out with Bradford when moving to their senior set up and didn't get a game, whatever the fall out was it remained unresolved for some time and eventually both parties agreed it was best to part company. I believe we paid a small transfer fee, but what I do know is that the coaching staff at Wakefield were absolutely delighted to get his signature. Do not remember when he started on the wing, I think it must have been as a make shift to cover for injuries but I do remember him scoring a fabulous hat trick in the final game of a season against Cas, the third try was in the final minute and was a match winner started when Ali Lauatiti swooped down on a loose ball and flicked it to Kay who went 80 yards to score in the corner. Liam Kay is one talented player.

Was it a 9s competition when Kay was part of a team including Walshaw that cruised to the final only to lose out to Leeds?
