Re: Sky Sports and Superleague restructure : Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:22 am
We need to improve our position with regards to TV rights I think that's fairly obvious, we have done a poor job tendering TV rights in the past (Especially the last time round, not even looking at other options seriously and just renewing with the incumbent) right now we seem to be in a monopoly but the market we operate in is not a monopoly and certainly will not be going forward as we see more development of other digital platforms such as Amazon etc but to do that we need to use our leverage and actually put the work in upfront. The ball is in Sky's court right now and it has been for a long time, we have become a sport that in a business sense they can exploit as much as they want as we seem so reliant on them, they say jump we say how high, they moan about viewing over the last couple of weeks dropping, well TBH there have been that many changes, playing games on Monday nights, Wednesday Nights, Sunday nights that I have watched very little rugby over the last few weeks purely on the basis I have just completely forgot.

By the way, I agree with comments on commentary but we have been saying it for years, somehow this group make Eddie and Stevo look brilliant, well they do to me anyway. I seriously doubt these blokes are the best for the job.

I’ve just recently cancelled my subscription, sick of the mediocre commentary, lack of airtime (not only for Wakefield but the sport itself) and watching reruns of premier league years at 6am instead of the multiple NRL games that are on.

Do not watch so called premier football, that is full of cheating and greed .The Sports I watch on SKY is Cricket and NRLgames .Start watching so called S L but lose interest after 20 mins .With the same teams on T V week in week out it's like watching repeats

I watch every piece of UK RL I can find across all platforms. Never watch any NRL
Watch Champions League on BT Sport. Never watch any premiership football or lower leagues for that matter nor Internationals
Watch televised limited over England cricket games but county wise only really watch Yorkshire live at Headingley in T20.
Nearly forgot: Women's beach volley ball and the lingerie league ( ). .

We didn’t even make the cut for our annual game at Castleford on rivals weekend. Sky have preferred the Hull KR V Hull game, I don’t know why other than maybe because we are boring and would definitely be a negative if they are looking to sell the game.

You really don't know why you saddo? Hull v Hull KR is the only true RL Derby and as such is the biggest. Both clubs are pushing for the play offs and the game will be played in front of a big crowd in a football stadium. Our game at Cas loses out on all three of those parameters. I'll be there, will you?
The Hull games and the Wigan Saints games are invariably televised and in this instance kept on separate days too.
Perhaps Leeds should feel aggrieved that they have been overlooked on Thursday with the Catalans game being broadcast? I doubt it though because the chosen game is justifiably the better of the two. The two untelevised games should benefit from increased gate money too.

O/T but will you be commenting anywhere about Patrick O'Donovan's excellent performance in the Yorkshire v Lancashire game earlier today?

I must be mistaken I always thought that both us and Castleford fall under the same authority but I bow to your greater knowledge. I note that initially we were due to play on Saturday and Hull on Friday. The latter was changed (this means Hull V Hull KR) so they could take the Saturday tv slot. If you think that by not being on Sky will increase our revenue at an away game, I admire your optimism.
I regret you are going to have to accept that currently we are just boring and offer little to a tv audience. I will ask you because of your complete dedication to us why is it a good idea to extend Chester’s contract and no I didn’t see the academy game.

1. Local authority means nothing to me apart from the destruction of The City status of Wakefield since it's creation.
2. I never mentioned that Wakefield would gain financially from the fixture change. Leeds and Cas will.
3. I am ambivalent regarding Chester at present and certainly don't see it as clear cut as your good self but then Carter still has my support to run the club too.

I really can't put into words how much you make me puke with this faux outrage and negativity to everything this club does, never commenting on or adding to even the slightest positive aspect. We get it that you have an axe to grind with Carter btw!

My only grind currently is his lack of understanding why Chester does not deserve an extension.

IMO there has been some dire games on sky this season ,but factoring in the COVID disruption which has hit a lot of clubs very hard it’s not hard to see why ,as they have struggled to put their best players on the field time and time again. There are fanstastic youngsters coming through ,welsby, newman and our own home grown talent, but clubs insist on getting over rated Aussies in their teams who steal a wage and do nothing for their club or game . Catalans led the way a while ago with big buck signings that took the proverbial, but are back on track with a bang . It starts at the amateur level ,all the way up to the first team ,get these pathways sorted and invested in and let’s see more home grown than second rate overseas players in our teams ., kids who grow up dreaming about playing for their hometown club rather than topping an Aussies pension pot up .
