Super 12s : Tue Sep 07, 2021 3:13 pm
See the RFU are looking at doing a 12s comp with all the best players being drafted into the comp, a little bit like the cricket. This will generate interest and branding and sponsorship.
Where does that leave the super 13s game?
Looks like the RFU need to adapt and get rid of their debt, a shame that the RFL can't think of such ideas to re-invigorate our game..........!

Can't wait to see the tight head loose head props running round with 3 less players. They can't even run in their 15 a side game!!!!

They have a great new innovation to drop out from under the posts too. Bet the source is never mentioned.

And a 40-20 sorry I mean 50-22- and we think it’s great that Eddie Jones is at the RL games pinching all of our coaches and ideas in training and gameplans.
Shouldn’t seem surprised, they’ve done it for years:
Phil larder
Farrell
Ford
The ex Wales coach (forgot his name)
Edwards
Tait
To name a few.

It pains me to say this but, the cas idea of super 10s, for A teams next season is a good one, but I would say, make it 30 mins each way, prior to the main game on match day, make the match day longer with ways of meals & refreshments similar to hkr, pre match family entertainment this en - thusing the crowed ready for the main game, emphasis on all youngsters having full excitement ! & then raising them on rugby league !

And the majority of us will still just roll up 20 minutes before main game and leave straight after hooter. I personally have no interest in any hybrid game unless it's the whole game and main competition that changes.

IF 12 a side proves to be a hit with the public, it could spell danger for our code.
I haven't seen the fine detail but, they would have to go with a 5 or 6 player scrum, getting very close to RL (as is 12 a side) and IF it works, there could be some tempting offers for some of our players.

Most importantly, they have the finance and backing to make this work.

The other issue is it could well be summer rugby as well. The rfu don't play in summer

Re: Super 12s : Thu Sep 09, 2021 11:23 am
The biggest danger to Rugby League is that this will be a franchised comp during summer and, by definition, will be virtually indistinguishable from League.
None of the RU forwards will have the work rate capacity to defend a full pitch with only 12 men on the field (Leeds do it every week!!). Union backs can't/ won't/ don't tackle and don't have the technique to back them up so expect our better players to be raided with huge paydays, just like IPL cricket.
They clearly don't consider RL to be a threat but rather a blueprint to work from and make improvements. This is something that our game has so dismally failed to do properly and will now face the consequences though we could get ahead of the curve by pinching any good ideas that may come up with.
The new 12's will not be able to facilitate the lumbering RU forwards so the steroid induced props and beanpole second rowers will not be able to compete with the RL type forward. It will be a bit like the cross code games at first with the RL side living on scraps but forcing the RU team back with strong defence then running wild when the RU legs gave out.

If there was plenty of brass on offer, you could see some RL lads giving it a go.
Mind you, the rucking and mauling isn't as simple as it looks and just as the Union boys "cant" tackle, RL converts would be losing the ball in rucks/ mauls.
I suppose it would depend on the scrums and whether they kept lineouts, both areas where RL players would take some adapting.

Perhaps they should suggest that the RU fans just go along to their RL club and watch a more dynamic attacking game

I believe it's completely separate from the RFU and they don't appear to be too enthusiastic about it. New Zealand, Aus and SA players won't be available for starters as they have their own championships going on at that time.

No idea who is funding it either. Suspect it will fade away but you never know.

6 backs, 6 forwards, 15 minute halves and no scrum resets.
