I'm really pleased that Kershaw is staying.
Certainly one of our most exciting players with ball in hand.

If he can improve again next season, we will have a fine player on our books !

He's a perfect foil to TJ. TJ is a classic winger and although he can create wonderful tries for himself his real value is as a deadly finisher who rarely bombs a chance.

Kershaw is the opposite, he's not a natural predator and doesn't always score the sitters and I don't think he ever will, though he's still got a decent success rate. But if you want a dynamic all-action player who sucks the energy out of the opposition then Kershaw is it, his work rate and resilience are astonishing.

TJ is not at risk from Kershaw because they are so different but I don't think it's a walk-in for Lineham, he's the one whose place Kershaw will be chasing IMHO.

The guy I'm hoping will be making TJ nervous in the next year or so is young Murphy, who is a TJ clone in some ways.

You can't sign someone for half a season.
He's either signed or he isn't.

Luppy seems to have a completely different concept of what a contact is to almost everyone in Christendom. Bizarre.

You can if they sign mid season
Rugby league contracts run from 1st December to 30th November so if Wakey wanted to ensure kersh was at Wakey in 2022 he had to be signed from 1/12/21 :thumb:

As for speaking up about kersh signing for Newcastle, I will. I was one that did state he was on his way, which he most definitely was, until trinity came in with a revised offer, probably the threat of lapsed season tickets and cancellation of 1873 from fans across social media platforms spurred on the financial decision to try keep him, but I'm sure Jose knows this, I'm pretty sure he has very good contacts at the club :thumb:

Do you it’s anything to do with a terrific burst of form or a different coach? Just wondering.

Of course you can start a contract at any point. What generally doesn’t happen is that a players contract expires with his parent then both parties leave a six month gap before signing a new deal. That’s the crux here.

Nope, I think newcastles offer was based on his form, Wakey's "revised" offer was a fire fight :thumb:

I’m afraid I’m not going to run with you on this one but you’re entitled to your opinion.

No offence to Lee Kershaw, but he’s not the kind of player that’s going to sell season tickets.

What I would say though, 12 months ago I think pretty much everyone expected that this would be his last year with the club. But he’s really kicked on this season, improved his game and earned a new contract through sheer hard work and his performances on the pitch. I’m pleased he’s signed, and fair play to the club for acknowledging that with a new contract.

I’ve just watched some highlights of your Ollie, he looked like he made a real impact at Doncaster. I hope he goes well at Dewsbury and we see him in SL in the not too distant future.
