The problem is everyone expects an instant return.

Expecting home grown players in first or second season is just not realistic.
You need to establish a presence whether through free tickets or not so that you can build on it.

The business plan to get them playing super league seems just a poor business plan. The same investment could have built a few local teams for a league and gathered investment at that level.
Can take years to build something good.

And that is exactly why teams like Toronto, and others nearer home fail.
One day the penny will drop and millions of pounds will be saved.
You cant get people into the culture of RL by simply announcing that a professional team made entirely on non local players will be playing in that area, and THEN trying to encourage locals to play the game! Talk about the cart before he horse! never a better example.

The solution is obvious for all to see, it's called the NRL.

For a club to join it is mandatory that they have a feeder tea, a junior comp, schools RL and have something resembling a bush league.

When they start they initially have very few local products but over the following season that grows. Toronto could never do that, it was all the wrong way around.

Closer to home PSG failed because of the above reasons, Catalan didn't because they already had a structure below them. It's so simple, why can't our leaders see that!

To a very small degree :D

I mean other than somewhere in the Scottish Highlands it hard to think of a more remote and hard to get to destination!

Beautiful I’ll give you that but I’m not sure as regards potential. Still compared to Ottawa it’s a winner.

I must be a bus ride of this expansion business then. The powers that be seem to want to expand anywhere they can, I do get that to a degree, but now we have a Canadian club basically disbanded and starting up in Cornwall, is it just me or does the RFL lack a clear business plan for expansion?

I now read they are EXPANDING the women's game to 12 teams in the women's SL yet if information is to be believed they are looking at reducing the teams in the men's topflight, you honestly couldn't make this up.

100% agree.

As for the women game bit, that's a mixture of bandwagon jumping, virtue signalling and it is cheap. I'm all for the women game, I find it entertaining and maybe it will one day rival the men's game but for now the men's game pays all the bills and that is that.

It's still an 8 hour bus ride from keighley, which means if the KO is 3pm, those part time players will be getting up for work Monday morning not that long after getting home
