WP first fail. : Fri Mar 04, 2022 6:59 am
First of all I forgive him and hope he learns. I do think that tonight was a fail for Willie. Not all his fault by any means but on this occasion I can see what I feel to be errors.I also accept I’m an armchair coach and what I say has limited value. At the end of the day I watch for 80 minutes and I suspect there is more to it than that
Anyway let’s look.
I can’t comment of the first half tactics because there didn’t appear to be any. Second half was a massive improvement but all things are relative.
Not playing Croft was a huge error. I saw him against Hull and he looked just fine. This was the one that baffled me before the match even began.
Murphy has huge potential but it’s a mans game and he isn’t there yet, Army Dave would have been my choice.
Walker should have been on the bench, his versatility makes him a super sub. Millers loss would have been much less with him available.
Fifita needs to start. With him we play, without him we can hold the line whilst he rests. He doesn’t start first we don’t start.
The above issues are all WP’s errors. What we can’t blame him for is the chronic lack of effort in the first half in a game we should have been up for. It shouldn’t need a coaches input to make that happen.
On the plus and there were not many. We battled to the end and actually looked the stronger team in the last 15. Fitness is clearly not an issue and that may be vital this year.
Anybody who still promotes the idea that Kay isn’t a hooker needs a lobotomy. He’s not just the best at the club after a remarkable transformation but one of the better in SL. Better than Hood so far.
Murphy will come back.
Jowitt is the player we hoped for.
Dave remains a star.
Lino. needs a few games and I hope Miller is ok.
Of the players due to return from injury, I don’t see any issue in them coming straight back in so no serious dilemma at least. Only Hood may need some justification as Bowes has been admirable even when out of position.
I think WP took some gambles and they didn’t pay off. But two SR at centre, neither with any real experience and in Pitts case speed was never really on, not even hindsight required.
