I though this year had seen the end of loaning players out… seems to me there is greater benefit from playing in the club systems in reserve grade…

Yet now we have three of our young squad playing out on loan! In squads with different training and playing structures

Seems pointless even counter productive to me

Listening to Jordy Crowther on the Trinity Heritage podcast, he states that when going out on loan apart from the odd session they tend to continue training with their parent club.

It seems to be still used for regular game time for the young lads above academy age.
The reserves is only every other week, alternating with the academy. Top end academy players play in both and fringe first-teamers get some games. Those unlikely to feature in the first team still sometimes need more time to develop. Perhaps when the reserves competition expands then loans will filter out.

Got to be better for their development to be playing competitive matches against men instead of lads the same age?

That’s more the Academy? Theoretically the reserves should have a smattering of seasoned pros.

Whether playing in the lower leagues on loan is better I don’t know. It’s probably tougher and far more realistic. However I tend to think the reserves allows players to develop skills without being under pressure. If we say loaned a player to Fev he’d be expected to fit in rigidly as these are matches where wins really mater.

It’s interesting.

No it was never that.

There are not enough regular fixtures for that.

Somebody like Windrow needs a full season not just a few reserve games.

Loans have always been a part of the game are you confusing it with DR?

Sam Eseh has also gone out on loan, to Barrow.
