Safe Again and Rather Ridiculously . . : Thu Aug 25, 2022 8:22 pm
Congratulations to Willie Poching on getting our 9th win of the season and securing our SL status.

Rather ridiculously we could finish as high as 8th, dependent upon the last couple of weeks results

We survived and I would like to thank the players and coach for keeping us in SL against the usual odds of injuries and poor signings but fortunately one or two surprises.
I now look forward to those in charge to finally give us the players and squad we require to move forward. They have obviously decided to ship out the majority of those at the end of their contracts and therefore should have plenty of spare contract money available. We will know soon if they have a strategy for next season with the quality of those they sign and looking at the Hull highlights Gale is not one of them, he is basically past his sell by date.

First half defended very well and execution was awful, trying to score with forced passes. But the second half we looked more composed and eventually got on top and overall deserved to win. Murphy scored another TJ swallow dive in the corner and set up Max Jowett with the clinching try, converted by Fifita.!!
After the hooter both Fifita and Arona ended up on the North Stand terracing mixing with the great unwashed.
A great evening and a relief to be finally over the line and not saved by Catalan.
Let's hope for better in our 150th season.

Fafita kicked a touchline conversion, T and Fafita over the fence and onto the North Stand after the game.

Good team effort against a slightly demotivated KR side who didn’t look interested in the second half. Not taking away anything from us though we got it done.

I thought all the back 3 went well. I also thought Hall was very good in the pack.

Fafita tried a bit too hard for me, he was desperate to score but provided his usual level of entertaining performance.

Atmosphere was quite electric to start with a big crowd and lots of anticipation.
I felt the players felt it too and tried to play miracle rugby which just didn't work. They needed to do the hard yards first.
Clearly Willie told them that at half time and they settled down a bit.

Fifita did very long minutes and put a big shift in. He converted the last goal from quite wide out actually. (Where was he against Sts!)
Fifita, Kershaw and Murphy were the standouts.

Emotional night for me witnessing the end of and era , I will focus on those images of David and Arona in the north stand rather than the game ,as I felt it didn’t have that emotional charge I was expecting.Big expectant crowd and a damp squib in that first half for me ,much better in the second period ,but should be expected with our two main half’s playing against a second rower and a utility back .Still can’t quite believe that’s the last we’ll see of them ,going to take some sinking in .

Job done (well it kind of already was but anyway), good to send the leavers out with a win. Not the greatest quality game you’ll ever see but some good performances in there particularly for me Jowitt, Kershaw & Murphy. Now onto recruitment and we really must get it right this time. They’ll be no soft touches next year.

Wasn't too confident at the start of the game having seen the KR squad and those fears were confirmed in that very lacklustre first half but whatever Willie said at half time clearly worked and we then got over the top of them in that second half. Dave put himself about a lot and was clearly determined that we were going to win our final home game, although he did try a bit TOO hard at times but it would be unfair to criticise him for being too enthusiastic. Max and Murph were both excellent but M.O.M for me was Kershaw, who was absolutely everywhere and there was no way they were going to stop him powering over for that try
