The Fifita Effect : Thu Jul 13, 2023 4:03 pm
Both on an off the field. I fully support the recent interview with Mash about DF. At Crigg, his support has been immense, not only with the open age but turning up early to get involved with junior teams. Last night he turned up and put our new under 14 girls team through their paces and then our helped with our developing ladies team. Always with a smile and nothing is too much trouble for him. Our roster has grown as a result. Quite amazing.
Transfer that to the pro environment and up many, many notches and it’s easy to see what an effect this has on his team mates. For example, Atoni, he is like a new man and he’s not the only one. The buzz around the terraces and elsewhere is immense. We suddenly have hope and optimism compared to the doom and dross we suffered for three months. All this has happened in a very short space of time.
I’m very long in the tooth and go back to the 50s but I cannot remember anyone playing for Trinity with such charisma and having such a galvanising effect on the spectators, team and the club and especially in its media perception. To us he is the Crigg Bopper and to the club he is the Big Bopper. We need to recognise this immense contribution to our fortunes from his near 150 games. His final departure will be emotional. Big Bopper Bar or something like.
Up the Trin.
