Danny Kirmond : Tue Aug 01, 2023 1:17 pm
Just finished listening to his podcast onTrinity Heritage.
What a great human being this bloke is.

It got me thinking, with Big Dave going at the end of the season, could Kirmo do a similar thing for Trinity, he loves the club, loves Rugby League and is assistant coach at York, (I presume he as his coaching badges).

To me, he would be a great assistant to Mash and the club as an whole

I'd happily bring him back in, but he won't do what Dave is doing. That's special.

Assuming that Fifita goes home (again) at the end of the season, how and where would we find a replacement player of his ilk, never mind the added "X" factor that he brings.

When we signed Gale, I presumed that it may be with a view to him having some kind of coaching role at the club (a bit like Sheridan at Cas / Wire).

Kirmond is club legend, if there was a place for him somewhere at the club, it would be a good thing.

I agree about the Kirmond bit but obviously not just for nostalgia sake. He needs to bring skills.

I get that, but we somehow have to try and maintain some of what Dave brings, hard work but fun, although I believe he as never been the best trainer in the squad.

I think Kirmo could maybe do it in a different way, former captain with great social skills, work ethic, and a half decent player, he also has a sense of humour and a rugby brain, and going by what he says wants to coach.

York aren’t going great. If he has the required coaching training level then it’s a possibility.

As someone mentioned I see Gale as stepping into an assistant coaching role. That said there’s nothing to say you can’t have 2 assistant coaches. Who knows but whoever comes in as assistant it has to be right. You wouldn’t want someone coming in and putting their own structures in place. They would have to work to what Mash wants/needs.

As for replacing Fifita. Not many players like him about these days. Best we could do is replace him with a quality prop with some size which won’t come cheap but needs must. These are big decisions you can’t cut corners with.
