Ladies Team : Thu Sep 21, 2023 11:12 am
Anyone on here involved with or watch the ladies team?
They have had a tough season I was just wondering what is needed to make it better for them.

I remember Carter saying we had a few of our best players just taken to other clubs because there is no governance in the ladies game on contracts.

I won't claim to know all the ins and outs on this but we never really had a great standard of player in the first place but a lot of the better ones that we had moved onto other clubs leaving us with a very young and inexperienced team who were simply nowhere near as good as the teams they were playing against.

I used to watch all their games pre-covid, but have only been to a couple since the end of covid. From what I've seen its a mixture of a couple of things, they lost most of their better players to other clubs that have been winning most of the games (similar to Cas) and the standard of player now is they haven't yet got the experience (new to playing) and the standard of coaching is questionable. One of my lads, who at the time the job came up around 18 months ago, was working for the community trust, volunteered to be Ladies Coach along with another member of the community trust team (both fully qualified sports coaches), but were told the club was going in a different direction.

The girls really do look lightweight in comparison to the other ladies teams. Got to give them credit for sticking to the job as they take some real physical punishment during these loses too.

I agree. I'd really like us as a club to support them more, whether it's training or money or new players.
After the effort they've put in against some impossible odds, they should be commended.

Ladies' game is a sham.

3 or 4 clubs cheery pick all the talent, because they want to be the biggest fish in a tiny pond. They do not have the growth of the game at heart.

The Wakey girls have done brilliantly because they are just that - girls!

They'll get better with age and experience, but I fear as individuals develop, they too will get picked off.

Re: Ladies Team : Fri Sep 22, 2023 8:14 am
We sponsored one of the team this season and invited her to join some of the group in hospitality for the Cas game recently. We had a chat and I have to say she still showed huge amounts of enthusiasm despite the heavy results they were taking. I know they have targeted the upcoming Swinton game as one that they hope to show an improvement and go close in that game. As everyone has said, the better players get picked off. There is no money in this side, it's all run by the Community & Foundation team but I do hope the new owners throw some money at them to help them get going. I don't expect us to be the next York but a few new faces from some investment would go down really well.

I give them massive credit for sticking by each other all year.

Re: Ladies Team : Mon Sep 25, 2023 10:00 am
Been to most of the games this year and the team has improved massively. The issue at the start of the season was there were a lot of 16-17 year olds playing against established championship players. The back end of the year they were down on numbers with a few bad injuries as well as players moving to other teams mid season as this is allowed in the ladies game. We never had the full squad of players like a lot of the other teams did which meant several games finishing with 11 or 12 on the field. Yesterday at Swinton was a prime example. Went over there with only 14 players and were 12-10 up with 20 minutes to go but just couldn't hold on. With the core of what hey have this year and the addition of a few experienced heads next year they will do well.
