To get back on topic, if we are in a situation to make a play for Liam Byrne for 2026 (now all above board this month) I wonder if we are hoping to use that to get a deal done and then try and leverage that to let us take him a year early for 25, maybe with a small fee.
I’m making some big assumptions there, the biggest that he’d have any intention of leaving Wigan for Hull, but there’s usually no smoke without fire with these things. They have an embarrassment of riches in the front row and you’d assume be tight on the salary cap, we have salary cap space and need a middle. Wigan don’t seem like a club that will be forced into doing anything they don’t want but if his long term future is elsewhere they might want to invest and re-jig their cap with someone who is.
