I think we’ve probably got a decent record recently of releasing players, Watts excluded, but have we made a mistake with Jez, he’s looked very good for Rovers, and seems to be holding his own with Parcell.

I dont think we released Litten, I'm sure it was his decision to leave.

Yes he turned down an offer from us, it will be interesting to watch his development access the river,

The problem for Litten was similar to Hodgson in that he needed to play regular rugby at a high level but Houghton was an 80min player.

Sometimes you just have to move to advance and develop, hopefully he will become a very good SL player. He never let us down when called upon but was always going to be behind Houghton.

Still think he needs a coupe of years to develop fully and playing regularly for Rovers will help.

Focusing on developing a core of home grown players to help win sustained success in SL (because that is what Saints do), is like focusing on what designer fragrance a Hollywood idol wears in the belief it will make you as attractive as them.

(I’m feeling provocative today).

I think he's improved a lot now he's a regular. His defence was and still is his weakness. I'm surprised how slight he still is. He's explosive from dummy half when the forwards get a roll on. The six again rule suits his style.

As mentioned we offered him a contract but Rovers obviously made him a better offer. That's the salary cap.

What's the alternative? Bring expensive mercenaries in like Warrington?

He wasn’t going to oust Houghton in a Radford team. Fair play to him for making a great career move for game time, but I’d still say Johnstone is the more well rounded hooker.

If you have enough money it doesn’t have to be a choice.

Developing players or wearing the nice fragrance probably helps a bit... even if it maybe costs more than it is worth.

I just feel that the importance to winning tends to be greatly overstated compared with other factors, and the excitement around potential/fear of losing out on it often isn’t sensible. In my head it is filed under JamesGreenPropsDon’tReachTheirPeakUntilTheyAre28Fallacy.
