The problem for players like Ben McNamara at Hull is that they have not been given enough of an opportunity under previous regimes. Instead preferring to play players out of position than trust in the younger players. The fact the academy set up with the game had been mucked about with for a long time and no mandatory requirement for every SL team to have a proper reserve team with a proper league structure hasn’t helped develop players either.
At least we now have a coach who is restructuring the whole set up with pathways for the emerging talent through to senior rugby. We have seen that even during this season BH preferred using players in their respective positions rather than the square pegs in round holes as we’ve seen previously.
I thought McNamara seemed fairly reserved in his performances as an attacking threat but defensively he was sound and reliable in most games he played.
