Death, taxes and Hull FC crap in September.

Ignoring the random 2020 season which went on until November and we got to the play off semi our September record is hideous

2015 W0 L4
2016 W1 L4
2017 W2 L2
2018 W0 L4
2019 W0 L2
2021 W0 L3
2022 W0 L1
2023 W0 L1

Good stuff and very enlightening we aint that good at doing Septembers are we?

If you do what I did this week (saddo that I am) and compare the point we dropped off and went backwards and the league position we were in at that point and the points we had in the bag, its always there or there about on when we were safe from going down. Since the Radford buddy buddy days when many were guaranteed a contract for the next season well before the end of the current one, (with relegated teams contracts null and void) that ensure it guaranteed players another years contract. I know that's not the case these days but it seems strange that the same trait is there now. Its almost in the players DNA The players that we know were leaving played fine until the Wigan game (the week one of the bottom two couldn't catch us) now with the exception of Swift they are not, makes you think really!!!

But we came close in those two semi finals to get to Old Trafford. In 2016 we came from behind at the JJB even with a key cog of that team, Sika Manu missing. Only to narrowly lose out in the finalminutes. And in 2017. We came from behind to take the lead at Headingly only to lose out to a late Sutcliffe try. We'd have done Castleford in that final no problem, as Leeds did.

The point is, we we're competitive and in the mix when the silverware was decided. We could only dream of that right now because we're miles away.

[quote="Mild Rover"]No relegation in the traditional sense next year or moving forwards. As long as you stay in the MKM, your top flight status is pretty much secure, irrespective of results on the pitch. Unless and until they change the system again.

There’s still a part of me that expects a tah-dah reveal in among your remaining new signing announcements. But it feels increasingly likely to me that Hull are taking the opportunity afforded by the existential threat of relegation being removed to adopt a financially prudent approach. Paying off some of the debt from the COVID pandemic etc.

If they are going to be going with ‘patience’, they need to be really careful with the comms around that. Rovers were much too open about it in 2012 and again in 2016. But, equally, it looks ridiculous to say the opposite. That may explain Pearson’s low profile and Smith’s studious ambiguity in interview

Wouldnt surprise me to see Hoy leave end of the season

All ifs buts and maybes, we didnt make the Grand Finals and then threw all the good progress in the bin with repeated bad signings.

Also not sure it is down to training too hard early in the season and burning out this time, Smith indicated we started the season a bit undercooked. I agree with Wilf that theres a trend for us to drop off when we are safe from the drop and players know theyve got another seasons money coming their way. Worryingly with no relegation in the future the players may be even more relaxed

Wondering if there is a salary cap or loan clause reason why he cant play, as keeping him at doomed to relegation Newcastle wont be progressing him much. Either that or Smith simply doesnt rate him.

think its the latter
Perfect game to play him today off the bench with Houghton
Top six was well gone

Id be on the fence about Hoy going, ive seen glimpses that there is a smart player there (though not hard to look smarter than some of the squad!) but there are doubts about how injury prone he is and there may be better uses of his salary.

Notice that Keith has been online for hours.

Poor sod. He must be frustrated beyond belief that he's not allowed to play with the grown ups.

But that's what you get for being a naughty boy.
