Or get beat by Wakey twice, the fact you are judging a player on try's scored shows you knowledge of the game, there are plenty of players over the years that have scored lots of try's without being very good. Hard to judge the league (like last season) when it is so unbalanced, we don't deserve to be in the play offs though.

Back on topic, if we are going to spend big, id rather spend it on a more pivotal players, in 2023 we should be looking for a top 7.

I was not judging Ben purely on tries. I was originally responding to irregular hoops who described him as dead wood. Admittedly he’s not a top player but good in the squad. Worth a year’s extension in my opinion and more importantly.TS’s

Reynolds was also two years wasn’t he (with a one year option).

Could potentially have three pivots leaving? I think they’d offer Houghton a reduced deal. He can also play other positions off the bench as well.

Sneyd is the interesting one. I know AP is a big fan.

I think if circumstances were different we’d be paying some players off after this year.

Then why bring tries into it?

You are the one who tried to compare him to Hull players with the amount of tries he has scored, let's be honest not many would swap him for our best 1-5.

Agree though he is a decent squad player, not kicked on from his early promise at Hull though, but a handy back up, worryingly id swap him for Fonua.

I'm sure AP was a big fan, particularly in 2016/17, surely cant be impressed with his firm over the last 3 seasons, especially the salary he will be on.

I had a look at his stats the other day, now I know he isnt known for his tey scoring, but he hasnt scored a try this season and 5 the 3 seasons before. In 16/17 he scored about 11 or so trys.

Not sure why but his attacking game has certainly got worst.

That tells you all you need to know about Fonuas form this year

Unfortunately Rovers fans are incapable of any critique of their club at all. If they’re happy with Crooks, bully for them. I’ve never been that impressed, even when he managed to make the Dream Team.

It was in an interview this year Dave, and he was really gushing in his praise. Think it was on Radio Humberside earlier in the year.

There again, knowing AP, he might feel differently now!

His 5th tackle cross-field kick must have one of the best benefit to risk ratios in the game.

You’d think the analysts at every club would be telling their pivots to do the same, and as often, if it is as easy as he makes it look… so maybe it isn’t?

He’s not in our best 1-5 either so swapping him would not arise. I take your point about tries but they do win matches. Looking at our prospective squads for next year I don’t think I would swap any of your 1-5 for any of ours. It might depend where you play Connor. An excellent player but seems to have a personality defect.

Critique is one thing calling someone dead wood when the most experienced coach in British Rugby League feels he deserves a squad place is something else.

Tries aren’t everything Dave!
