Looks like they'll have 4 centres on the books with 2 playing out of position

Hiku is a very good signing but I’m not sure he’s as good as some people are making out. Especially as right now it looks like rovers are focusing on talent rather than what they need

Gildart, Opacic, Hiku, Hall are a great set of centres for a SL side but 4 doesn’t go into 2 does it.

I see Hiku on the wing and they’ll bring another full back in. It’s a lot of cap to put on a player who will be on the wing and out of position.

2025 recruitment will be pivotal for rovers. If they do well recruiting this year and then some how manage to replace Ryan hall, parcell and linnet with like for like quality they will break into top 6 for the foreseeable.

I’m not sure they can though, especially as they’ve not really got a ton of top youth.

Good for rovers thought to have some excitement. I don’t care how good they are as long as we’ll recruit well and aim to compete ourselves

shows how quiet it is on our signing rumours front when we are discussing who the dobbins are signing.

Hiku is a good centre, big gamble to have him as your first choice fullback, not sure he has the skills to play there. Been awful this season, but still he is a good player and should do well in SL (although maybe not at FB)

He’s played there 5 times for New Zealand compared to 8 times at centre. Plus 3 at what they call five-eighth and one on the wing. Sounds pretty flexible to me.

I do see a case for having a good, young back-up full back in the squad too though, to potentially exploit that versatility.

Not really seen him much at international level to be honest, but at club level I have only either seen him play centre.

Re: Shopping list for 2024 : Sun May 21, 2023 4:49 pm
13 games played now and we’re starting to see what we need for next year. Nearing 50% win ratio which isn’t great but is similar to radders & hodge in the end isn’t it

2 props (Satae + Evans replacements)
2 back rowers
1 winger (if swift stays)
1 (probably 2) hooker

I’d be giving houghton, Taylor and griffin 1 year in reduced terms.

I really hope Macintosh can turn a corner and solve our winger issue. As recruiting two wingers will be tough. Scott works hard but doesn’t convince me on wing.
