The problem is we don't really know what we need at the minute. Radford, Hodgson and Smith were all very different coaches with very different philosophies and all three failed miserably (well, Radford obviously had a period of success but things had descended into a shambles before he left). On paper Smith should have been a great fit, but he turned out to be the worst of the lot, and he himself is proof that just because a coach has been successful at one club that isn't necessarily going to translate to everywhere he goes. Lam himself had a very disappointing time at Wigan before he found a role that suited him at Leigh. It's a perfectly valid opinion to think Lam wouldn't have been the right man for the job, even if you disagree with that.
All we can really say with certainly is whoever ends up with the Hull job has a huge challenge on their hands.
