To be fair we are hardly setting Super League alight right now and we are out of the cup, whereas JK did bring the Challenge Cup home and put a Grand Final team together, so on that basis he is the best coach we have had in recent history
In this argument, it doesnt matter if we have improved under Kear or not. We were poor under Kear, we were poor under Sharp after 2006 and we are poor under Agar. The club should hire a good head coach for once.
If Kear put together a Grand Final squad then it could be argued that McRae put together the Challenge Cup squad. But obviously both arguments are silly to make. I could put together a grand final team together, it doesn't mean I would get them to the grand final does it? Kear managed to win us a few games in the cup but when it came down to the bread butter of the league he could get us going properly. One game against Leigh he put 70 on them, another game against Leigh we drew. One play-off game we wipe the floor with Wire. The next week, its 71-0 at Bradford. I could give other examples but I think I have made my point. We could win the cup every year for all I care but if we don't perform in the league then the coach is useless. A coach signs the players, a coach trains them, a coach motivates them, a coach develops the game plan etc etc and no coach since McRae, you could even argue that no coach for even longewr than McRae, has been able to put together a team that can play consistantly well
