Interesting interview with Carlos. Get the feeling he won't be captain next season

Sounds like he doesn't want the responsibility and wants to concentrate getting fit and playing which is understandable.

The problem is there doesn't seem to be many natural leaders in the team. A problem we've had since Ellis retired.

I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

Bit concerned about the Cator interview in the HDM today, says that the play is for Cator to move to hooker when Houghton goes off. This should not be happening, when Houghton goes off we need someone with a bit of spark, not someone who has no attacking threat and is there just to tackle. We have a dew better options at 9 than Cator and based on last season he shouldn't be in the 17 anyway.

Really hope we don't waste the potential talent Balmforth has.

You beat me too it Dave, thought exactly the same if weve a few promising hookers lets play them, this is how weve lost talent in the past, square pegs in round holes over young lads with talent

I’ve read the article a couple of times now and seem to get the impression that Cator isn’t necessarily seen as the replacement 9 more that he’s training there as an option. Sounds like he isn’t the only one of the squad that are training for a couple of positions/rolls.
Feel it’s more a case of making sure that if we suffer injuries we have players and systems in place that mean we aren’t as disrupted as we have been before. It’s also possibly another way to up the competition for places and performances having players across the squad that are able/capable of taking anyone place in the 17 if they don’t perform.

Bearing in mind Trueman won’t have a pre season and likely miss the start of the season, we haven’t got an out and out 7 to replace Clifford it’s likely Brown will be in the halves with Hoy or Smith to start. This would leave us relying on Balmforth to be the interchange 9 which would be a lot of pressure on him and the team. Once Trueman fit we may see Trueman/Brown as the preferred partnership or Trueman/Hoy with Brown as the first choice 9.

Of course I maybe be completely wrong but do feel it’s more a case of covering the bases more than Cator being seen a regular for playing 9.

Apart from Clune, who we apparently tried to sign, there hasn't been any available, the club can't just magic someone.

We could have maybe gone for someone like Wakeman, but the club rightly decided to sign a current international who can play 7 or 9.

That’s how I read it as well but didn’t stop the wannabe coaches and know it alls getting their knickers in a twist.Be interesting to see how Cator goes this season as he may have needed last season to get his confidence back after 2horrific injuries, same with Carlos but some people don’t see it,if he doesn’t improve then yes he can go.People want some players out who are still under contract..how do we pay them off.Answers on a postcard.

I personaly agree, but the club are going for a strategy of younger signings. Also there is no chance of a signing of the quality of Jason Smith from the NRL anymore the wage gap is too high.

And our most sucessful halves this century have either been young (Cooke, Horne, Brough) or signed youngish on a long deal (Sneyd) every old halfback on a shorter deal has been a waste of time Long, Gale, Reynolds...
