Apart from Asiata the other signings I would class as no more than solid. I know It's not difficult but they are upgrades on what we have.
The new investment probably came to late to sign better quality SL players as they would have been snapped up already.
The crucial part of the recruitment comes next. The coach is in place we have a number of quota places and should have a significant amount of the salary cap to play with.
I would hope and expect that the remaining signings are of a higher quality to give us a chance of at least competing for a play off place. That's setting a low bar but after the shambles we have seen over the last few years it would be progress.
Absolutely agree. I think it's been clear for some time now that we have not been able to compete financially and that's showing in the squad. We just wouldn't have been able to compete for some of the better players that are on the move next year until the investment was secure. By which point it looks like a lot have already made their decisions. Hopefully the new coach will have good knowledge to get us some decent quota players in and maybe we can tempt a bigger move domestically with a transfer fee (but as we know in RL, that's easier said than done).
At the moment, it's important that we improve the team even if it's slowly and whether we like some of these signings that are coming (or rumoured to be) they do improve us even if they aren't what we ideally want. So let's get behind them, the new coach, and the club for what is hopefully the start of a new era for us.
