I have found myself being pretty critical of Lane, and it is justified in my opinion. He really hasn't kicked on from the promise he showed when he broke through, if anything he has regressed pretty badly. He made 50+ tackles on Friday, granted, but was at fault for two try's, and unfortunately that is a common theme for him. He is far too weak, and with being at the risk of been a bit brutal, is Championship fodder. Would much rather Staveley/Severs get a chance to show their worth.
But, what I will say about Lane, is that he is another example of the utterly shocking contracts we have handed out over recent seasons. For that the club only has itself to blame.

With hindsight. His extension was announced 2 years ago today, and a lot can change it that time. The initial reaction was positive on here, so it wasn’t an obvious ‘WTF?’ moment.

Walker Russell Mac Litten Martin Hoy Smith Ashworth Brown J Brown Sao Oku Staverly Subs Bullock Gardiner Houghton Lane
Not a bad shout, though I'd like to see Balmforth on the bench in place of Lane, should Houghton be passed fit he could go to 13 and Staveley in 2nd row with Sao moving to the front row. Also would give us the option of bringing Balmforth on and moving Brown to 13 to limit Houghtons minutes if possible.
Exactly this, we can't be accepting mediocracy, maybe Lane had a better game than a few games last season, but he was still average at best, granted he made a lot of tackles against Warrington (mainly as he played hooker for a spell), but as you say, was responsible for the first try, in which he was tackling a 19 year old halfback. I want more from our forwards than a few tackles too, I want them to be making makes, making meters after contact and offloading, he has done none of these this season. Both him and Ockunbor are under pressure to perform.
Especialy Ockunbor starting to look like another Kane Evans
I would love to sit down with him and discuss what he sees and what he knows.
We don’t see players day in day out at training.
But I stand by the errors I have pointed out and my opinion that it is not good enough.
A couple of fans have said that he has been good in their opinion but that is being very generous as far as I’m concerned.
Errors are only one part of the on field indicipline Penalties and six agains are far higher on the list. I have said this several times before but how many times do we finish a set in the opposition 10/20 then give away a penalty on the first or second tackle, then a six again or repeated six again followed by a try. Our on field indiscipline is shocking and Smith has to take the blame for that as the coach. In fact looking at last season the indiscipline under Smith its getting worse. Fans keep bleatiing on about how badly we are treated by referees and the disiplinary panel but Brown apart we have only ourselves to blame. Until Smith sorts this out it hard to see apart fro London where we can pick up points as even Castleford look a far better team than we do

You was the one was saying we should be patient and give him a chance.
He's played two games in unfamiliar conditions and in a team that's played two halves with twelve men. Let's at least give him until firmer grounds are here.

That makes a lot more sense to me but i still dont think Balmforth is Smiths flavour of the month and will miss out We will see Sunday

Thanks for reminding me I once thought he would go on to be captain
