Is Tony getting a bit defensive?

All this talk of culture is fine but its very vague. We all get that improving this club will take time but everything that seems to come out the club is vague generalities so we've no idea what they are actually doing. So when we don't see any improvements on the field it seems like nothing is happening.

"he insisted it is a long-term process, and despite the ongoing frustrations, which arguably peaked over the weekend"

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Not had a chance to listen to the podcast as yet (had been hoping to this evening but it will likely be tomorrow night now) but have read this article. He's right in that turning the culture around at the club is going to take time and not happen overnight. But it's not as if he's newly appointed. He's a season in now. There should be some outward signs at this point that the culture is improving slowly that we as fans can see each game out on the field. I think it's fair to say that no one is seeing that from the outside of the club. So it just sounds in similar vein to the old "we trained well all week" line we've heard for years. Meaningless if we're not seeing it on gameday. Which makes it very worrying when he says that the culture has improved a lot since he's been here.

Definitely sounds a bit defensive but maybe that's a good thing. Might be that he's showing some fighting spirit and that might rub off on the players.

Course he's getting defensive, he won't get another SL job if this doesnt turn round, and he's still only 57 and unless he's invested well probably can't just retire.

all this talk of culture and changing it,our current plight has nothing to do with it,the fact is most of the players we have now, just are not good enough.no flair,no leadership no guile.until we start signing some quality players and put them in the correct positions we will flounder.

If he was that good of a coach, he’d have at least improved our discipline but that’s arguably worse than when he took over.

For me, Clifford saying how easy our preseason was under Smith speaks volumes.
It would obviously explain our lack of fitness and propensity to give away penalties like confetti due to fatigue and lack of intensity in training.
Unless there is a huge sea change in Hull's on field performances, Smith is done for me.

Agree, London clearly have one of the weakest squads ever in SL but at least look organised and arent getting cards every week

In the land of wishful thinking once more. Patiently waiting for our time to finally arrive.

I've been on the internet and have already got a sense of the fans' passion for the club. They are very fanatical - Peter Gentle 12th September 2011.

Money doesn't talk it swears, Obscenity who really cares, Propaganda all is phony.

I'm the son and heir of a shyness which is criminally vulgar.

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way.

We all agree that a change in attitude/culture/mind-set/whatever is undoubtedly required at the club, but that is a mid/long-term stratagem. A process which, hopefully, will evolve over time.

But it shouldn't then follow that whilst that is taking place, we have to perform, in the here and now, at a level which has been, quite frankly, barely above championship standard. Just because a club is in 'transition' doesn't mean they have to plummet down to the depths.

I know they are different, far more successful, clubs than us, but 'transition' for Wigan and St. Helens usually means dropping down as low as 4th for two seasons before they resume their normal trophy winning ways.
'Transition' for us seems to entail scrabbling around the bottom end of the table for nigh on a decade!

This simply comes across as yet another excuse to me, another excuse to mask dreadful mistakes, past and present, which have led to us being barely competitive in 2024. They're fudging the issue as always, hoping that we won't notice somehow!!
