The recruitment is all over the place, seemingly over the hill journeyman like hardaker and Holmes or untried kids like these 2 hookers. We need some solid experienced pros in their prime years or we'll have another 2 or 3 years of mediocrity while all of these contracts unwind.
Maybe the investment isn't all it's cracked up to be
With 16 players out of contract with only a couple of youngsters resigning and adding Sutcliffe, Pele and Walker to that list at the moment we are likely way down on salary cap for 2025 then 2024. It’s obvious that the investment hasn’t been finalised yet or at least made its way into money spent in the first team, we do seem a lot more willing to be getting coaching and off field roles sorted at the moment. It’s also obvious something major is happening behind the scenes at the club, I just hope it happens in time so we don’t have to write off another season completely.
I’m confident that there’s still time to add 2-3 quality players once the Covid loans etc are sorted and the investment kicks in. If we go back to the AP interview he did say the plan was a self sufficient squad filled with ‘journeymen’ and any potential investment from outside could help add 2-3 quality players that we’ve not afforded for a few years. Anything else regarding ‘investment’ was invented in peoples minds and on social media.
I know AP has said a lot of things in recent years, but everything he’s said in that interview is playing out, I’m sure the situation will be better back end of the year once the financial situation and possibly even the stadium lease is sorted.
