Exempt from Quota and only a 12 month deal, with no outstanding centres available I think it is a good deal. I liken this signing to Sid Domic and if he is just as good as he was then I will be excited to see him play.

He's solid in defence which will improve out right hand side and take a lot of pressure off Sharp. The only hype about a top quality centre has come from the fans only. You have to remember were we have being over the past few seasons and even though most would like to think so we aint as an attractive club to sign for as much as we believe. We may be after next season though.

You're not the only one, but I really can't see it myself. Domic was a very, very good player.

I've had all day to ponder this bizarre signing and i'm still stumped.

However, AP is still very much in credit so far as i'm concerned. The removal of Agar for Peter Gentle is our biggest stride and the signing of Lynch is superb. I understand the O'Carroll deal to be one of the old regime so the only thing I'm questionning so far is this deal for Martin. I just don't get it.

Martin won't do anything fantastic but you can guarantee our right sided winger will now be given a proper opportunity to score a try. As opposed the p!ss poor service it has received over the past couple of season.

If we had signed Martin on say a 3 year contract then I would say that is a lack of ambition, however its a 12 month deal. That to me tells me the club have looked at better options and none of them have come off or maybe they have put one or two irons in the fire for 2013. However the club have identified the lack of playing talent on our right hand side and have side a stop gap just so we will have at least some sort of threat on the right hand side. He's here for 12 months, experienced season pro and if it helps to make Ben Crooks or Jordan Turner better players then its money well invested.

The fact that they is no top quality centres available at the moment is not AP, SM or PG's fault. They have had a look and maybe thought they would target a massive centre signing for 2013 and have Martin here on a 12 month deal.

However I get the feeling this signing is going to be damned if he does or damned if he don't, every mistake he makes will create a thread on here. I say that because people have taken a dislike to him already before he is even here.

Both are very decent signings, neither superb nor disastrous.
Watched Martin play at Odsal and he is still a solid right centre with good hands and a proper rugby brain. He won't go the length anymore but is a better right centre than Turner and Whiting and will go well in a side with a bit more ball. Lynch is nothing more than steady.

Well, if this is the standard of recruitment we're going for then AP's predictions of us becoming a top 2 side are some way off. In my humble opinion he's an average 33 year-old who has failed to spark the interest of any top clubs in past two months despite his RL dispensation from the quota.

Would much rather we'd gone for Murphy http://www.sportinglife.com/rugbyleague ... ml&BID=480 but I guess the two deals aren't comparable and I'm hoping we've done this deal with a top player already lined up for 2013.

Martin is a better player than Murphy.

Besides this isnt a signing with a view to make us a top 2 team, its a signing that will get us through the year whilst we look to build a champion team for 2013. Who knows, Turner might tear up trees in pre season and Martin might hardly get a game.

But Gentle has come out in the media and made top two predictions. I honestly cannot believe that he thinks that this signing is going to facilitate that goal.

Wire, Wigan ,Saints and Leeds must be furious at missing out on Tony Martin. Heads will roll !!

He might be a better player now but Murphy is young and English and has bags of potential. Like I said I can only hope that we've already tied up someone better for 2013
