Yes , fair comment but with Whiting we have an experienced model professional who at 26 still has good years in him. Earlier this year we resigned him and kept Washbrook. I know there are no guarantees but I'm worried that we'll end up with the same imbalance we've had for years precisely because we buy players that are available/that we can get to sign rather than building a team based on specific positional need. And of course there is no guarantee that Westerman will be any better than Turner , another at least wannabe, 13 or Whiting who hasn't been given the chance at 13 his , in my view, natural position. Time will tell.

From what I have been told, at the time 15 years old he wanted mega money, Ok now that would have been worth it but at the time it was a hell of a lot of money for a kid his age, as some kids that age look great and don't live up to their potential (Tommy Lee).

Very good signing, when was the last time we paid this kind of transfer for a player like Westerman.



It just shows the club has a lot of ambition and are finally putting into place, the last few years has been stablising the club so we are safe for the next few years, now tehy are investing on the field and Agar, Rule and the board must be congratualted for it.



He has lots of potential, 20 years old, english and I feel a position we need as we dont have a ball handling LF and it will strengten the front row as Fitz can play there.



If there was a good young halfback to sepnd the money on then great, but there are non avaialble for that money, I think we did have an offer accepted for Myler but he didn't want to move from warrington.



If I was in England I would buy a pass just on this signing, not even about signign westerman but the ambition that teh board are showing.

I'm not disagreeing that we could have Whiting at LF - I'm a big fan of Whiting's and believe if we're going to go away from a prop at 13 we do already have options in him and Washy, who plays far better at 13 than in the halves IMO. The bigger picture is this, though. Westerman was touted a couple of years ago as the next big thing, and a better prospect than Turner. We've seen already this year with LMS and possibly Shenton that there is a complete bunfight now when the best quality young British players become available on the open market, and both from a geographic and perceived opportunity to win trophies perspective, FC are at a disadvantage. Where we have an advantage though, is the ability to pay a fee, and therefore if Agar is a fan of Westerman and clearly has known him for a long time, IMO it makes sense to seek him out before we get into said bunfight next year and his salary demands increase. Getting him on a 4 year deal signals he's another young English player we intend to build a team round in times of reducing quotas. Add to that Washy is OOC at the end of the year and Whiting in Agar's mind is quality cover for the back 5 (and people, as usual, seem to be forgetting his forthnightly MOM performances in the three quarters in 2010 before his injury) and it sounds like good long-term planning IMO. "All" Westerman has to do now is buckle down and deliver.
