It's the top end old players and overseas players that are the issue, every squad needs the liked of Fash and Scott on their squads.
Im pretty sure Smith will be sat studying wages earned im relation to performances, id be very interested to see the results.....
Who are our top earners compared to our top performers?
Taylor Evans Griffin Satae Sao Clifford Hoy Dywer Sutcliffe Houghton
Id guess with Swift, Carlos also on decent wages. Some huge cap available if were ruthless enough.
Personally hoping Balmforth, Staveley, Litten and possibly Jebforth are introduced certainly next season and we can also add a couple of gems from the championship on sensible wages leaving room for what youd class as 3/4 really good quality signings in the pack and second row.
What a shambles this club has become, how can they expect supporters to keep coming in their thousands whilst constantly keeping us in the dark with these secret extensions? I dread to think how many others are actually signed up for 2024
We'd be a much better team if all players put in the effort that Fash does every week. It's a shame he's of the stature he is because if we was built like Sao or Satae he'd be a wrecking ball.
I always think of it like this. If he was playing for the opposition, would you even notice him?
You always need a few players like that though, I mean Ian Kirke won how my GFs with Leeds?! The trouble at the moment is the quality around him is so poor. If we could ever get on the front foot he'd look much more effective, just as he'd done in the past.

Ewan Dowes was probably a similar type of player, did lots of work but was smaller than a lot of our props but didn't look out of place due to the quality and size of player around him at the time, King, Carvell, Thackeray, Manu, Kearney, mcmenemy, J smith etc, whereas now we rely on fash to be one of the leaders of our pack, which is a problem, and he has smaller players around him too in Lane and Cator who provide little go forward

Indeed. The presence of players like Fash and Cator isn't, in of itself, a problem imo. It's the fact that the players signed as metre makers aren't actually making many metres. Now if Fash or Cator have to make way to reshape the squad then so be it but I do think they have value in a correctly balanced squad.
