Not for me..... To sign Philbin, we obviously would have to pay him a higher salary to commute or live in Hull., Longstaff, did a good job, but lacks physicality, might as well play Severs. Regarding Shaul, he might not go, the new Wakefield coach, may have other ideas. So, Philbin & Longstaff would reduce the marquee salary, and on the remaining balance on the cap, to entice a NRL 7, it would be difficult to sign any pivot who is decent, and more importantly.. who is available at this time of the year??? Signing 3 players, I don't think will cover 1 marquee salary We are in the same situation, at the same time last year, with Sneyd... IF Connor wants to go, get a fee, I know this is not palatable.. but re-sign Gale, for a season., then we can re-evaluate the situation,in June, when a better calibre of players are off contract.
All if and buts I know.
Doubt Philbin would need an increase, as cost of houses in Hull would be much cheaper, agree on Longstaff, but think there is a player there, not ready for 17 every week, but a good squad player who has potential.
Signing Gale again would be a massive mistake, I'd rather stick we with what we have.
As mentioned all if's and but, but think we could get Longstaff, Philbin and a NRL SH on Connor and Shauls wage.

If we are looking for an NRL half, a fridge one like Clifford would be ideal, not wanted but still under contract, so you could probably get Newcastle to pay a good percentage of his wage for the first year, like we did with Reynolds and Evans.

Wire look heavily linked with Clifford. I always thought he was more of a running half though? The Knights have signed Gamble, so guess either Clifford or Clune will move on.
As you say the balance of the squad is terrible and also add to the fact we have a spare quota spot but no cap space to fill it just shows how poor our recruitment has been and the mess we are left in.
It's almost as if having a stadium announcer in charge of that job role was a bad idea.

Gale turned down the 2nd year of his contract even though he had played enough games to be here in 2023.
