It seems that James Clark and Co have a rather strange way of doing things with a big win last week and an opportunity to get a big gate next weekend against Cas. this is the last thing we want to here without some news on incoming players. lets hope that we get some. I can't remember a season when we have appeared to lag so far behind other clubs at this point in the recruitment process. We always prided ourselves as a club of being able to keep the players we really wanted to keep.
I guess this latest blow was a bit expected, but the club have done all they could to keep the player and it seems that loyalty is a long way down the agenda for these import players (what happened to the Fitzgibbon, Manu Minicheillo types of loyal long term imports eh?) I guess it just indicates how the perception and indeed reality of Super league and the British game in general has gone down in the view of the Australian game, and how far behind the NRL our game actually is.It seems that once a player has proved himself here and a club has invested time and money in his development they are off back home ASAP., Because, I guess they believe, that's the only real place to ply their trade.
However, as for Griffin well on Smiths part an example to the rest has been made about letting the rest of your mates down and it was a good thing for me. In Swifts case it is totally understandable family wise but all three departures don't help us and the talent drain we are experiencing which coupled with the fact that Houghton Taylor etc are a year older and getting to the veteran stage in 2024 paints a pretty bleak picture for us fans desperately trying to find some good news recruitment wise.
I just hope the Club can show us some hope for the next season because all this talk of good youngsters is fine but we all know that experience proves that it can take years for them to establish themselves in the first team and they only do that if they are surrounded by class players. This keeping your cards close to your chest approach is all very well but many are now starting to wonder if there are any actual signings coming in a t all (with perhaps the exception of the two we have heard of on here who hardly look massive coupes). We have the best coach in the Country for me, but he must have a hell of a job on his hands rebuilding this team in time for 2024.
Lets hope for some news this week. This native is getting restless!!
