I like Smith's words in Hull Daily Mail.
Absolutely gutted to be losing Cliff but I feel positive that Smith will get things right and sign a capable replacement.
Taking what Smith has said I get the impression that he’s looked at it from day one and he’s been prepared should Clifford go home after this season. There appears to be no panic from Smith in regards to recruitment for 2024 & beyond.
As he said the previous recruitment hasn’t been right and you only have to look at what for me were panic signings in Gale, Reynolds & Evans and that’s without the resigning of Fonua.
Those 4 will not have been cheap and no doubt were a large chunk of our cap.
Whilst I’m sure AP is rightly being more careful with finances in part due to the failures of the previous coaches and having his fingers burned, I think he’ll fund when and where needed for the right players. I think under TS his experience & track record gives AP confidence that any money will be well spent and not wasted, as has been shown by upping Clifford’s offer to stay.
Had we not been making improvements then I must admit I’d be getting rather concerned but when we’ve seen more improvement in this season so far than we’ve seen since the end of 2017 so for me we have to trust the process.
