read most of the dribble couldnt give flying f---k how much the club paid ,we can afford it nice to see us invest in the squad great player westerman ,future england international right age with all his best years ahead hamme to prop now fitz second row ,love to see grant rivelli cum in for cover and would have loved us to have kept calders ,think we still need some cover in the backs tbh

i think when the ''half'' arrives that will be it for 2011 recruitment.i would have liked another back, but can't see it happening.phelps would have been perfect for a year, but i don't know whether that if it is rovelli, who comes in,is he classed as quota,as he has an italian passport?

I don't see why people have such a big problem with the transfer fee. It won't be putting the club under any financial pressure or they wouldn't have done it, so what does it matter how much it's cost?

And for all those saying the money could be better spent elsewhere, please tell me how. We play in probably the best stadium in SL, we have a strong academy setup that has already had money pumped into it, and our other off-field areas such as merchandising are also among the best British RL has to offer. That leaves no more needy area of investment than the team, and we've done it.

All this 'we could have bought x player instead' is also codswallop. We can only buy who is both willing to come and available for sale. The vast majority of us have no idea who fall into this category, so it's pointless conjecture to bang on about it and berate the club for not making fictional signings which may or may not (and more likely the latter) be possible.

I can only think of one thing I suspect we don't spend enough money on, and that's the coach. I don't think that has a bearing on transfer funds/fees, though.

People moan when we don't sign players.

Then they moan when we do.

They moan that the club has no ambition.

Then they moan about us paying transfer fees.

Reading the thread I think some of the complaints are that if we had money to spend then they would have rather seen it spent on a more needy position, scrum half. However the fact is we have already tried that with Myler and there are no other options available this season.

It's a really good signing and with Rovelli covering the halves then we look well equipped for next season. The club are aware that the halves will need addressing next season with Horne and Long both ooc but that is next season, we had the money and have signed a good player who could go on to be a star. Nothing to be unhappy about from what I can see.

True. And when Long, Horne, Fitz and others go off contract we should have plenty to spend on new half backs. But that's for 2012. Lets concentrate on 2011 for now!

That's what I don't get though. I too would have preferred to see us buy a scrum half. Doesn't mean that's possible, and I think people need to realise we can't just click our fingers and make everyone dance to our tune.

Joe Westerman is young, British and talented.

He effectively cost us nothing unless you believe

1. the money would be better in the bank
2. we should have spent the money on anything but strengthening the playing squad
3. there is someone else who is available for a fee and would have been be a better signing.

Anyway, I'm off to the KC tomorrow to buy 3 season passes.
