Pretty fair assessment Pete and one you'd be hard pressed to argue against. For me personally after such a horrendous season even though Grix was only an interim I'd have said thanks for your efforts and parted ways. He was brought in by Smith and he has certain foibles that are very Smithesque so I'd have preferred that complete break. As the Leader of a group for me he failed the audition and he seemed to come across as a negative character and quite defeatest a number of times.

Maybe Cartwright has seen something in him and is prepared to give him a chance under his tutelage.

As you say if Cartwright is indeed the Coach as reported that has exacting standards and demands on his personnel then it's likely he stands up to the task or will be gone.

I think when interviewed after games most of which we were battered its hard to be upbeat and if he was hed get criticised! Was unaware of player influence in the changing room. But we dont know detail. On the face of it he hasnt done great but he has gained a lot and hopefully this will benefit Hull next season

Here's hoping that said players have been moved on.

Good job Cartwright got himself fixed probably would have found himself unemployed with Walters getting the sack.

An interview with IMG has revealed the TV deal went from £40m a year to 21.5m and of course SKY now getting to show every game...great work from the administrators as always.

Never mind a new investor at HullFC the whole sport needs a new investor or it'll go to go part time.

Lots of people quick to point the finger at IMG, but forget that the RFL was struggling in the first place, hence the need to bring them in

https://www.sportbusiness.com/2024/09/m ... and-minds/

This article is really good and puts a bit more context to IMGs plans for the sport. The TV deal was always going to go down with a product that was getting a bit stale and no real competition for bidding rights, why would sky need to pay more than £21m if they don't need to? The real test of IMGs success will be seeing what the TV deal is at the end of 2026? When the current one runs out. Getting all the games on TV is a good step, the next one should be to stagger the kick off times so every one kicks off at a different time and try get more on the main sky channels and off sky sports+

Getting all the games on TV is the worst thing they could have done.
Just leads to more supporter apathy about attending matches
BBC are also not interested in R/L.They seem to have just outbid Channel four solely so Channel four dont have any TV rights rather than any interest in the sport as can be seen from their lack of adverstising games.BBC2 one week BBC red button another week the odd game on BBC1 its just a shambles

It’s actually quite a tough game of Guess Who.

Not the kids, and presumably not the ones who left before or shortly after Grix became interim head coach. Not Houghton, Tuimavave or Ese Ese because… obviously. It’d be hard to knock the effort of players like Jordan Lane and Morgan Smith. Fash and Sao got frustrated and lost their heads a bit at times but it is slightly difficult to imagine them as bad influences. Walker, Sutcliffe, Trueman? Maybe disheartened at times, and they’re leaving which can make you a blame magnet in any workplace but none have that sort of reputation, afaik, or give that vibe. The group of young loanee forwards, or any of the new signings - Briscoe, Aydin, Chamberlain, all seem unlikely candidates.

Why did it take all that ramble to say “you don’t know who the players responsible, are”

A mix of wanting to be clear and self indulgence. :)

Like, I don’t know whether your paraphrasing of my ramble is to suggest I was making an admission of ignorance or to suggest that I was accusing Roam Ranger or Wilf of that.

There was also an implication that talk of the 2024 Hull FC playing group having a bad attitude doesn’t ring very true to me. Fitness and quality seemed like much bigger issues.
