I lost my virginity to your lass last week. She said it was the best 10 seconds she'd ever had. I'm always armless and usually legless too. Your point?

that's a shame my lass is a cross dressing trucker called dave. Probably was the best 10 seconds as we don't bother since he got diagnosed positive.
My point was that your selection was as obvious and pointless as mine.

| Don't we get this 'make or break' talk every year from G.Horne? I think he's started reasonably well in the centres and he looks pretty comfortable, although when Motu and Raynor are back I would personally stick Briscoe in the centres and drop Horne to the bench. I don't think he's done anything wrong, I just think Briscoe offers more in attack tbh and looks like a safer pair of hands. I don't think you can say Briscoe is'nt ready for the centres because as far as I'm concerned, ''if your good enough your old enough'' and he certainly IS good enough. Graeme Horne's a solid defender and he's got got abit of pace but I just don't think he's any sort of threat going forward, and in a centre thats one thing you need. I wouldnt have any problems with him been utilised in the pack because he's a decent runner of the ball and he's definetly strong enough, however as I say I just don't think he is classy enough to play at centre.

| Isn't it make or break for him every year?
Maybe a harsh question here, but if he was again offered only a 1-year extension, how many think he would actually be prepared to make the break away and move on?
His Hull career of the past few years has been a tale of convenience, really. He's cheap and versatile and doesn't seem to want to leave, so he gets to stay if we have cap space left and no better way to spend it. Likewise he hasn't had to move, or face the prospect of the challenge new surroundings bring, and he gets to stay with his brother. The fact that he's still a point of much debate about his first team credentials and seems to have pretty much progressed as far as he's going to IMO means this situation is justified, particularly now we have other prospects coming through. Stay or go, I can't say I'd be too bothered either way with him TBH.

| Break.
I think he is a good centre, but not for hull. We should be utilising our wingers as much as possible, and i don't think he provides enough ball to Calderwood for what i have seen this season so far.

...and by that trail of thought we should be getting rid of Yeaman too then.
Regarding G.Horne, well I personally rate the bloke. Fair enough he's not world class but he certainly doesn't let anybody down.
Why this thread is neccessary is beyond me.

| Is defo a squad player and I would give him another year, but once Raynor is back, for me Briscoe should go right centre, but Horney good cover now we have lost Byrne.

But one difference is that there wasn't a salary cap then.
I don't think many people think we need to get rid because he's poor, it's just a debatable point about whether or not we could use that part of our restricted funds more effectively.

3 games in, and 3 wins to add. This sort of thing isn't something we should be worries about at this stage surely.
It just seems to me that people don't understand what squad means. They have 19 players in mind that appeal to them and the rest can go.
Our star signing has not and may not arrive, we've just had a player ruled out for the season and yet there doesnt seem to be panic anywhere. Thats testiment to the squad we've got and the reason the G.Hornes, Tommy Lees & Craig Halls are worth every penny.

Exactly.
No club can have in unlimited number of big earners, so the ones on teh modest salaries are a necessity. If those who are squad fillers, on less than the big names, wouldn't you prefer it if they still put in the same level of effort and endevour whilst not looking out of place.
IF, G Horne was released his salary would not attract the star name so many crave. The trade off is having 2 decent players or 1 star player. After last seasons injury nightmare I think its safety in numbers.

As I've said, I'm not bothered either way about Horne ATM, I'm not saying get rid. My point is about the length of contract, which is what the original article is about. With new players coming through I don't personally think Horne justifies a longer term deal, because if the youngsters coming through progress as they look like they can he'll be surplus to requirements, possibly by the end of next season.
The money he's on won't be the kind of amount we could attract a big name with, almost certainly. I'm just saying that we need that kind of 'wiggle room' so that we don't put ourselves in a position where we have to shed a younger player who may have become the better player because we have a steay player with years left to run.
The other thing is that he happens to play in the positions where we actually are well stocked with numbers. We are already carrying perhaps 1 or 2 too many, so that's another reason I wouldn't see the wisdom in giving him more than a year extension.
