Re: Smith - should he stay or should he go? : Thu Apr 11, 2024 3:11 pm
Right here's my thoughts...I said back when I joined the forum that our current situation is a bigger issue than the coach. For want of a better term it is the culture (yes, I know some people hate that word) at the club that is the problem. You can't just lay blame on one particular area of the club with this because this has been going on for years. Coach after coach, player group after player group, CEO after CEO and even owner after owner and it's still there. So in that sense, it's once again harsh that it is the coach that has once again taken the fall.
But if we look at it purely on results and what we are seeing on the field, then it is right that he went. Performances have been dreadful and there's been no sign of them getting any better. We should have been seeing improvements by now given that he is into his second season and if anything, things have gotten worse. It's very hard to defend him over what we have seen game to game.
Hopefully whoever is next can give us an uplift. It's probably too late to salvage anything this season other than restoring some pride in the shirt and badge both in the plays and us supporters in the stand. Long term though, I still maintain that there is a bigger issue to address by the club and if they don't figure out how to solve it, the next coach will have just as much luck as Smith and all those that came before him.
