I imagine for Wigan, Catalan and saints, they take full advantage of the marquee player rules, it is easier to attract players to the club due to the increased likelihood of winning trophies and appearing in finals and the lifestyle on offer in the south of France is an obvious pull factor for Catalan. Wigan and saints have excellent academies to draw on as well which means they can pay other players a bit more, we currently don't have that luxury but hopefully that will change if more players do break through this season as Litten did last season
I get all that. But they can still only have two marquee players (changing to 3 this year) one of them can be a club trained player eg a Welsby. One can be a federation trained player. You can still only have one non federation trained marquee player. The non federation marquee is largely irrelevant as you have to pay them more than 150k to then get the dispensation after that. I dare say there won’t be many players across the league being paid more than that.
I just don’t see any real top talents coming through the academy, everyone was raving about Litten early doors but I’m not convinced on him. Hopefully that’s because he was over exposed and had to play more games than we maybe wanted him to.
I’m afraid as it stands we will be languishing towards the bottom again, and I can’t see it changing anytime soon.
