What surprises me most is people not thinking we need to make a signing at prop. IMO we definitely do. Even if Dowes stays, we have 2 good props and 2 ok next year, by no means a bad set of props but not one of the strongest either IMO. But what is most worrying about our prop situation is that if Dowes gets a 1-year extension, all 4 are out of contract next year, with 3 of them over 30 by then (I'd expect at least Radford to be considering retirement) and the other looking pretty likely to want a crack at the NRL. If we don't bring in at least 1 prop for next year, we are potentially leaving ourselves a ridiculously challenging recruitment drive next year, and one that I think we would really struggle to pull off, which then writes off yet another season.
And if anyone thinks the answer might lie in our youngsters, we can't expect them to go from not getting a game in 2011 to playing every week in 2013. There's no way we can build a pack capable of competing that way in such a short space of time.
