I dont really see why people are disappointed. It was becoming more and more apparant that we had been trying and failing to get a big name and we were either going to sign a younger player who was unproven, or someone like this as a stop gap.
Whilst im a little disappointed myself in the signing I think people are been a little harsh on Martin who has always been, and still is, a really useful centre. Its hardly looking to the future but I think he will go pretty well next year.
the problem is the context in which the signing has been made, a background of AP being preparedto put his hand in his pocket and pay a fee, a background of wanting to push for the top of the game, a background of excitement and optimism.
AP would do well to consider how he has "managed the expectations" of the faithful, because he's failed in this very basic area of business on this occasion, given the rumour and mubling about the Allam's, he is on "borrowed time" as far as some fans are concerned already, and it needn't have been so, not a single season pass has been sold yet and the good will is ebbing away in some quarters.
