Well if you are scraping the bottom of the barrel it won't. It's a different story with players other clubs might be interested in. Leave the scummy behaviour to Hudgell and acknowledge he's the expert in this field.

Feel a bit for Obst, gave his all throughout last season for us, and is decent cover, just a shame that there is better/ younger cover in front of him in the pecking order.

If we couldn't shift him I wouldn't be too upset tbh, at least you know what you're getting with Sammy.

Obst is in the driving seat here, and good luck to him. It's a short career and it's our mistake to have offered him a 2 year deal. Disappointing all round, but it's of our making, not his.

If we'd only offered Obst 1 year, I doubt he'd have come, and without him I am sure we'd not have made the play offs. Now as much as we were never going to win them, that awayday at Cas when we secured it, and even the first half hour of the Leeds game I wouldn't swap for Obst to only get 1 year (if that all makes sense?)

I think I get what you mean, but I personally disagree. Finishing 8th meant nothing really IMO, as we were always going to lose at the first knockout hurdle, so for me the Obst signing was still fairly pointless and just a sign of our desperation. He was never worth a 2 year deal or a quota spot, and a meaningless 8th place wasn't worth the problem he's now causing our recruitment situation. I'd sooner we'd stayed away from him and finished in the bottom 4. ATEOTD the only thing we got for making the playoffs was a frankly embarrassing arse-kicking on TV, and we'd be in a better position now if we had.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Obst came in, did a decent job and gave his all. No complaints about signing him at all here.

The fact that we now want to move him on is not his fault or a reflection on his effort at all. It will all get sorted out and I wish him well wherever he ends up next.

It is, but in this case the outcome could be seen a mile off TBH. The only other possibilities would have been to either have him as our first choice scrum half or one of 2 first choice hookers, and IMO he's not quite good enough for either in a top 6 team so that would probably have been worse. He was a short-sighted panic buy, who neverless gave his all and should not be faulted for his part in things.

I don't agree that it could have been seen a mile off. At that point, we were desperate for a half back and hadn't signed anyone for the coming season. He could well have ended up seeing out his contract, if things hadn't gone to plan on the recruitment.

Academic really now, though.
