It’s not as if Saints, Leeds, Wigan and Wire are spending double what we are though. It’s a sport governed by a salary cap.
What becomes crucial is your coaching staff. I don’t buy us being a level below the teams I mentioned.
Hull are a big club in Super League, and relatively well resourced. Any attempt to make us believe we should be happy with our lot just won’t wash.

According to Scott Taylor in today's HDM, we need to look at the bigger picture and be thankful we're clinging on to 5th place instead of cementing 2nd spot because we finished last season badly.
Well that's OK then.

What he doesn't grasp, is that the picture can change. The league is poor this year, and 2nd was easily achievable so the end goal should have been adjusted a quarter of the way through the season and make it the minimum expectation, not then revert back to top 5 as being a good year because we showed no friggin bottle or desire

I think there are two points to this,

One at the start of the season most of us would have been overjoyed with a 5th place finish, but to be so close to a 2nd place and just throw it away is the really disapointting aspect.

Two, it isn't just about the league position, it is about the performances and entertainment and there has been too many shocking performances this year and the style of rugby apart from the odd game has been so boring.

Moving forward we need to try and finish the season positively starting with a win this week and then have a real go at the play offs, I don't mind getter beat at Wigan, Salford etc this season with our squad, but I want to have a big effort and go into next season with positive vibes.

I guess we just put 2019 in the "what could have been" pile and look forward to next year, but without new halves and/or attacking plays it could be more crash, bang, wallop.

I agree with that Dave.

On point 2 however that could be a cut and paste from any of Radford 's past seasons in charge and that's what disappoints me.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

Don't forget that extra backroom staff cost extra money, less of an issue when you've got a wealthy backer.
And I wouldn't call our lease agreement with the SMC particularly lucrative, considering they take a percentage (50%?) of gate money above a certain attendance (8k?).
