Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

Re: Contract Talks & FCs Future : Fri Jul 10, 2020 8:34 am
... price increases for the most vulnerable age group is never going to work, they're the ones less likely to go anyway.

Make pass prices a minimum charge for everyone, and by all means encourage people to pay more if they can.

Season passes purchased for more than 1 year could also work, although it would reduce income in subsequent years, but now is the one that matters at the moment.

Does that mean the price should be decided by means testing for Seniors?
Surely given the choice most people would choose the most affordable (for them) option, then they may have some disposable income to spend on shirts etc. in the shop.

That's not what I inferred at all, I said seniors could be asked to give over and above their already significantly discounted season pass, there would be no obligation whatsoever. That means those whom are not in any financial difficulties could give more for their passes toward the full value.

Why are you presuming that the 'seniors' are the most vulnerable, do you have access to all members incomes/excess income? Many seniors have much more expendable income than those who are payig full adult price and certainly a significant number have excess income than some young adults that the club give same discount to.
I said a small increase, say £10-£15 per membership depending on where seated, that equates to 30p per week, is that really too much to ask given the extreme situation the club/sport is in?
We could end up with an average/weak squad for more years to come because AP can't/won't invest money as he sees it as throwing good money after bad and that it's too risky. If everyone puts a small extra amount into the club by buying a membership or buying a ticket at an increased price then this eases the burden overall on AP and allows us a better financial footing to get players we need.

Vulnerable as in more at risk from Coronavirus, nothing at all to do with financial wellbeing, hence my reference to "they're the ones less likely to go anyway" at the end of the same sentence.

I suppose every players financial situation is different but its a shame they the could not negotiate a league wide reduction policy with the union to keep everything fair. Do we know if its just for this season or for longer ? It seems unfair that players from one club may have to take a 25% pay cut, especially if its for more than this year, while players on a similar contract at another club have to take 15%.

I think some of the hoo-ha is about players being asked to take pay cuts, whilst some clubs are at the same time buying new players.

If they are less likely to go then they won't buy a season pass full stop then if they believe they are vulnerable health wise so the cost of the ticket by a few pounds is utterly immaterial and will not be the difference to going/not going and buying a pass/membership.

ATEOTD it's asking some people to help the club out financially when the club has been helping them financially by given a significant discount every year based on age only, it's hardly a big ask when it's not even a requirement as per my suggestion, merely an ask.

Would you consider 30p/week to be too much of an increase for fans to help the club out, if so, could you say why? Do you not think helping the club financially is a good thing given the current dilemma not to mention other aspects of funding that mean we fall below other clubs that do better consistently?

I would say that a new director means a spread of the financial burden on AP, shouldn't we as fans also be trying to help out in some small way, even if it's just a small increase in a season pass/membership?

And that is the Key point in all this , whilst the lockdown is on Clubs have announced Marquee players for next season whilst expecting contracted players to take a pay cut
