no excuses here mate, we were sh!te in the first but better in the second. imo if we hadn't made so many errors it may well have been different. giving ourselves a hill to climb in the second and going at you hammer and tongs in the second may have left ourselves a bit open.
I agree, I was really disappointed after the 1st half - I thought we were lucky we weren't 20 points down and expected us to get a bit of a kicking in the 2nd half.
In reality though, if you look at the tries Fax scored all of them were poor play by us rather than good play by Fax. 1st try the ball goes to ground, Varkulis misses the tackle and Black goes in unchallenged. 2nd try all Fax had to do was dive on the ball, and the 3rd was really poor defending from Smithy on our own line. Don't get me wrong Fax were clearly the better side in the 1st half, but it does make you wonder if Fax would have got such a lead if we hadn't made the defensive errors? Fax were quicker and stronger in the 1st half but close to our line, they didn't really look like opening us up - just like we struggled to open them up. In the end, the game was decided on stupid errors and poor defence - which was surprising considering that Fax are normally noted for their attacking ability. Obviously Fax fans should be well chuffed with their defence, but I'm not sure that they should be that pleased with their overall performance. I mean just scraping the win at home against a team who played so poorly for the 1st 40? Fax should have been out of sight by half time.
