It's not so much the "lie" but the over-egged confidence of getting the stadium done - as the rticle below suggests.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_league/super_league/7509659.stm

Here's a snippet:

General Manager Francis Stephenson:July 2008:
"I think currently we are fine with what we have at Belle Vue to get the franchise.

"We have improved the stadium in order to match the criteria for now, namely increasing the capacity to 12,000.

"But certainly for the next franchise bid in three years we will need to be in or at least very close to opening the doors of a new stadium."

What d'ya reckon to that last sentence? His words, no-one elses.

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Could any of you really say on hand on heart you want us, Salford and Cas to all get our grounds?? It's not in your interest for all of us to get our ground.

It doesn't matter who gets a new stadium , even if all of you get one

Somebody is going UP , unless they increase the number of clubs in SL then somebody IS coming DOWN

It is probably 90 % certain that the club going UP IS WIDNES , I am a Leigh fan , we have a stadium on a par with Widnes and will hopefully qualify to apply this season , But I still think Widnes are a better placed club than us

You are not in competition with any of us to stay in SL , you are in competition with Cas,Salford,HKR and possibly ' only possibly ' Wrexham

At the current situation stands we are the strongest out of all. I fail to see how many in this thread think we are the most vulnerable considering we are well placed to win the extra franchise point through our league position finishes.

I opened my post with "It's not so much the "lie"........." so i agree. It wasn't a lie. It was a hope. A bid placed on a hope. A hope that hasn't materialised. The RFL should forget hopes and instead they should insist on travelling to the stadiums, walking inside them and having a good feel of bricks and mortar before awarding any points that count toward a franchise bid.

Until it is actually started , let alone built , it is neither the truth or a lie , it is just a piece of paper , it's worth is that of a piece of paper , you are fortunate that you have 18 months to start building , Leigh were building for over 12 months before the decision and it was still taken out of our bid , you already being in SL should see it included , as long as it is started

When it is , come back on this board and you will recieve warm congratulations

Do you mean stadium wise? No your not. All three of you are neither in front nor behind each other. Drawings are drawings.

On the staduim we are all on an equal footing, that I agree with. If you read my post again and try and take what I said, we are on for a average top 8 finish which would give us an extra franchise point. Please try and pay attention :SUBMISSION:

So we agree it wasn't a lie, thank you. Maybe it would be best avoided using such dramatic terminology as it does your credibility no good. :)
