It's good to know that a St Helens lad scored the first try at Langtree Park, even though he was playing for Widnes!

We gave them a real good game tonight and the lads can be proud of themselves. Really like the new stadium. Well done Saints.

Well played Widnes.

You certainly displayed more attacking creativity than St Helens for much of the game. Your kicking game was much better than St Helens as well.

Although a friendly its quite clear the team don't intend to simply make up the numbers and once the team gels a bit more some of the other clubs will not look forward to playing against you.

It was supposed to be 13,000 and sold out but the attendance was less than this which is strange.

Yes good luck for the season ahead and I think you will surprise a few teams this season. Its nice to have you back in Super League and many Saints fans were mentioning this tonight.

Where did the 13,000 figure come from? It was announced by Saints as a reduced capacity but I don't remember them ever putting a figure on it?

The official attendance was 11,900.

The 13,000 limited capacity was printed in the St Helens Star and Reporter.
