Having seen the statement from the Whitehaven CEO yesterday, and numerous postings on the Barrow Raiders forums about the club being in financial difficulty ,isn't it time for clubs to take a long hard look at themselves and realise that with Super League clubs now receiving an even greater share of the Sky money, belts have to be tighten and sacrifices made..It's time to stop the boom and bust of signing players on inflated contracts, and then complaining when you cant meet your financial obligations to them and HMRC.
As the saying goes "The only certainty in life are death and taxes"
Workington also made significant cuts the year after they came down from the Championship, as the revenue streams from League one are limited with only a handful of home fixtures and limited money of about £15,000 from the RFL.
Take Dewsbury as an example, spent heavily to win promotion then fail to invest to even compete in the Championship , we should really count ourselves lucky that Terry Bramall and Gavin Baldwin not only backed the club to gain promotion, but followed that up with significant investment to stay there and compete.
I hope Haven survive but its the same story from the same clubs every year , live within your means and you will always have a club to support ,alternatively spend rashly ,chasing a dream and there may be no dream left to chase.
