I've always though teams should get two seasons notice...they never do

If the Super League changes go ahead (to one up, one down and no Middle Eights) increasing the size of the Championship makes sense or else there wouldn't be enough fixtures to fill the season.

The bigger issue may be how the financial cake is divided up. If the Super League clubs are trying to reduce Championship/Championship One funding, then I can see objections being raised. Nothing can be changed without the lower league clubs' approval. The three up, one down proposal seems a good one if their aren't financial 'cuts' that take the gloss off it.

The other potential issue is where it would leave Championship One. There would be fewer teams in that league. Getting a balanced comp would be more difficult and attendance income would be likely to drop too as there would be fewer 'big games'. C1 clubs might reject it on this basis especially if their £75k central funding is in danger of being cut as well.

I understand it has been rejected still...unanimously.

So unless the offer changes it seems unlikely

A Rugby Football League Council Meeting will be held on Friday 14th September. The purpose of the meeting is to update all Members on discussions between the RFL and Super League (Europe) Limited and to seek the Members support for a suite of measures relating to the Game.

Surely even the RFL would be hard pressed to bring in changes affecting promotion and relegation for this season at this late stage? It's a shame the meeting agenda hasn't been made public!
