Reading that match report posted by Jemmo on the MOTM thread, it made me think that we WERE fortunate to beat Rochdale.
Rochdale squandered loads of opportunities to score tries.
However, I think most of Rochdale's opportunities were down to Doncaster's poor ball retention and bad decision making.
I know I am biased, but I thought we were the better squad (not by a lot granted), but from the very off we couldn't hold the ball.
The result was intense pressure on us for 15 minutes at the start.
But our defence was excellent and Rochdale could have been three tries up thanks to our ineptitude in attack.
We got a break or two with Crisper's tries and from then on the game swung in our favour. We were in charge.
But we kept giving them reprieve after reprieve instead of killing the game off, and as a result Rochdale were in it until the final hooter.
Yes, I can see why Rochdale thought they should have won that game, only superb tackling and fortune kept them scoreless in the second half.
Ruthlessness is still missing from the Donny game.
Crisper and Neverson had more tries in them, but we persisted in trying to get the forwards to score pie-muncher tries. It almost cost us what should have been (once we had established dominance) an easier win.
I think we are close to being ruthless in defence, but not ruthless enough in attack.
The four try burst against Skolars showed what we can do.
Identify the weak side and attack it over and over again as long as it is successful.
Skolars weak side was their right side and we capitalised that day.
Just my opinion of course.
