"Doncaster RLFC continued their impressive start to their Championship One campaign with a 26-16 win over Workington Town.

Shaun Leaf, Kyle Keswik and Craig Fawcett all crossed for the Dons to give them a 16-0 half time lead with Leaf scoring a second after the break. Ryan Steen also scored to give Doncaster their third straight victory.

Workington got their first points on the board early in the second half through John Patrick, with Neil Frazer and Jack Pedley also touching down for Town but the damage had already been done."

As Stand-Offish stated the club worked very hard to promote the game against South Wales & this produced a crowd of 895 the Dons won that game & they won there next game away at London Skolars so the question is why was the crowd only 493 at todays game, maybe in the current financial climate people can't afford to attend on a regular basis.Did the Dons give out a lot of free tickets to promote the South Wales game in the hope people would like what they saw and come back to the next home game.

I believe there were a lot more tickets given to school kids for that game. But ten quid for an adult is excellent value geoff, thats a lot cheaper than it once was (£12 on day - £10 if u buy ticket in week). maybe its the prices which need advertising more. maybe a lot of people still think we charge what we charged when we first moved to keepmoat

Top marks to those who stayed ... me included  .
This is the best side we have had for the last 5 years.
I have got to congratulate Tony Miller and the Don's management for what they are doing.
We just need an extra 200 people at least.
Which reminds me Geoff and Steve, get yourselves down here...

PS I heard some kids shouting for the Dons today behind me in the first half (left hand side of the East stand) ... warmed the cockles of my heart it did.
It's the way forward.

I don't think for one minute that the Town fans are saying that Jemmo. Yes they are saying that our team played poorly and that your lads showed more enthusiasm than ours but no-one has said that you did not deserve to win. We did pinch a bonus point from you and we'll take that but please don't try to give the impression that we are saying you only won because we were poor, that's a bit of a cheap jibe, not your normal style. We are sorry that we couldn't have been more competitive like we were last week against Oldham but best of luck to Donny and we have to play you another twice yet this season.

Maybe I am being harsh, and if so I apoologise. It was just the first things I read were "they're no world beaters", "we didn't do this", "we didn't do that", the implication being not that we won because we may have been better, but that we won because we got lucky Workington had an off day. We get it every week, even when we beat Thatto heath it was because of their off day apparently!

A truely great performance by the boys yesterday, i dont think i have ever seen so many injuries and positional changes in all my years in the game. The performance from every player was magnificent and their drive and commitment to the team unquestionable , we now have a group of players that are prepared to put their bodies on the line and dig deep when it matters. Scott Spavin has not trained all week and was sick in the dressing room before the game and at half time but knew we were down on numbers .Full credit to Craig to come back and put in that performance after a year out . Our defence was first class and considering the size of the Workington pack ,i cant remember any of their forwards making a bust. This win will prove we are going to be a force in the division this year and hopfully convince a few more fans to come back and see some quality rugby league . Massive display by the boys. Everyone of them should be as proud of themselves as i am of them.
Not many sides will out boss Workington in the forwards as much as we did.
Seventeen M.o.Ms. Credit to the coaching staff.
Thought Fawcett had a big game especially in defence on the right wing.

Re: C1 - Workington 27/03/11 : Mon Mar 28, 2011 9:47 am
I am not quite sure how Workington scored 16 points yesterday.
When they looked most threatening we tackled them to death near our line and when they didn't look too threatening, they scored ... weird?

They got what they did get on the back of penalties and knock-ons though.

It is surprising what a good job of tackling we did what with all the disruption given Workington were a big and fit side, and will beat most sides on their own ground, including us probably (hopefully not).

PS Oh, just a tip tip Stuart Sanderson to improve his game......learn how to do the 'Mansson curve'.
And if you don't know what that is Stuart ... it's when you are being caught by a speedier defender, at the last second change direction and curve across or away from his line and by the time he realises what's happening and changes direction too, you've gained a couple of precious yards on him. It probably wouldn't have helped yesterday, but it could be worth a try in the future (pun intended).

I am a cheeky monkey.
