There are much better pints out there than the black fizzy mass-produced stuff you're on about.

Nethergate Old Growler is a dark porter/stout which is full of flavour and knocks spots off it, though there are any number of micros do a better job of it than the world's leading stout producer ( sales-wise at any rate )

Incidentally, I went down Larndan and was sorely disappointed by the Market Porter in Southwark near Borough Market. Had heard and read great things about it, but the three I sampled were insipid and almost tasteless and all for just £2.75 a pint ( starting price! ).

Much prefer the Chandos next to Trafalgar Square. Lovely pint of Sam Smith's Old Brewery at £1.72.

I must admit to being a fan of Wentworth's Oatmeal Stout.

Beautiful British beer.
Cheap as chips in the Ivanhoe (my adopted local).
£1.33 before Darling got started.
 :(

That's music to my taste-buds

Incidentally, S-O, I agree with you about the Ivanhoe. Had many a pleasant pint and Sunday lunch there over the years.

Yes I suppose your right.

A classic example of a'real' stout is 'Stoodley Stout' from microbrewer, 'Little Valley'. Due to it being such a small brewery you probablly won't find it in Donacster or S Yorks, but keep an eye out when you come to the likes of: Rochdale and Keighly away, as its well worth a sup.

You can remember a specific beer after 9.1/2 pints?!? I'm very impressed!

Noticed on your location you're into Bateman's beers.

At the Aldi in Rotherham they're selling bottled XXXB and some other speciality ones, one prefixed Autumn whose second name escapes me, Combined Harvest and Spring Goddess. All quality beers for £1.29 for a 500ml bottle.

Might be worth paying your local Aldi a visit.

I think it's called Autumn Fall. Aldi sell some very good beer from Batemans and Wychwood and the XXXB is a lovely drop of beer.
I started drinking back in the 70s and unless you came across somewhere selling Draught Bass, there was little in the way of good beer about. Boddingtons around Manchester or Higsons around Liverpool were alright, and Newcastle Brown has always been good, but those were the days of Bass Charrington Brew Ten and Watneys Red Barrel. There's a far better selection available nationally these days for people who appreciate a proper pint of beer.
