Bit further out still is the Ferry at Cawood, which has a reputation for good food but the beer can give it a run for its money too.

Visited the Ferry (Cawood) last night and can concur. The food was excellent and there was a choice of five real ales.

On the way back we called in at the Wheatsheaf at Burn where they were serving John Smith's 2008 Grand National 'Winners Tipple' Limited Edition. Obviously, I had to give it a try - sits in the glass not unlike Johns Cask and is similar in colour but has a taste which leans towards darker ales.

Blimey!
We'll have CAMRA's equivalent of Jilly Goolden on here next.
''Tried a pint of Zarathustra yesterday. It lounged back in the glass like a dreamer thinking of distant romantic places, with a head as creamy as Mr Softy and a bronze hue that would shame Dale Winton.
A delicious quaff revealed a full bodied taste that danced on the tongue like a manic Wayne Sleep. There were hints of Manhattan on a chill winter's day, cinnamon from the Orient, salt and vinegar crisps by Walkers, tarmac on a melting road in summer, the full knowledge of a complete set of Encyclopedia Britannica and the warm smile of Dickie Bird.
Truly a complex and magnificent ale.''

While i was quaffing my post-work pints of Midnight Bell in 'Spoons on Friday night the manager came over with some photocopies of Viz 'Real Ale Tw*ts'. Very funny. I wonder who has a beard on here.

Not me, I'm not man enough! Neither do I have a fisherman's-knit jumper or have the urge to sing 18th century Irish folk songs after a skinful, but I do have a rapidly-expanding waistline.

Glad you enjoyed the Ferry. Like the ambience of the place. Can't help thinking it'll be a great place to relax with a pint in hand at the side of the Ouse ( provided it's not 10 feet above normal ;) on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Aaaah!

Have been taking it easy of late. No doubt this will change next week when the 'spoons' beer festival is on.

I have a beard, full and short at the moment, this could soon change as I usually shave on a whim after necking a few ales or even ciders I am currently half way down a bottle of Old Peculiar . Pass the gillette Michelle.

Went to the Salutation last night supping Bombadier and Duchar's IPA.
Came out and tripped over.
I have got a beautiful black eye.
I'll be the one at tomorrow's game with shades on.
